NASA Selects 2 Missions to Study ‘Lost Habitable’ World of Venus

The clearest pictures of Venus' surface ever taken, by Venera 13 in 1982, the first spacecraft to transmit images in color. It was designed to last about half an hour on the surface but ended up surviving for more than two hours. Read more about why Venus is such an inhospitable place.
